Urinal Robot

I was using the lavatory at a restaurant in Osoyoos, BC when I saw this sad robot. I had to take a photo. The guy beside me thought I was taking a picture of something else.

Here's another series concept I have. A show that makes absolutely no sense, the story of my life.

We're back!

Hello friends! It's been a while since I've posted anything on this blog. I haven't been making Honkbarn lately as there are so many other ideas and projects which are occupying my time. That's why I've switched this blog up to feature our company Yeti Farm Creative. We're a studio of 10 artists and animators based in Kelowna, BC. We're kicking off this updated blog with a project I've been working on with THE Andrew W.K.. Enjoy!

Character Poses

Jorden Oliwa lent his talent and helped rough out some Honk poses. Fun stuff!

Absract BG

This guy has some crazy good textures on his website... One of his textures was used as a backdrop in my painting here.

Another couple of BG tests

I'm liking this one a bit better. There's more depth which in turn means more room for these dudes to move around.

The next stage of Honkbarn 6 will be getting the look of picture down. I'm experimenting with some different background styles. This one includes some real world elements which I'd like to start incorporating into Honkbarn. I'm not so sure I like this one but it was fun to do none the less.

Honkbarn 6

One thing we're going to do in 2011 is animate a Honkbarn 6. Below is a line-up of the characters who will be in the new episode. I've re-designed them to be a bit more vibrant and playful.

Old vs. New

I figure it's about time I dust off the ol' Honkbarn and try to bring it back to life. I'm trying to add a bit more life to the characters and design them so they're a bit easier to animate. I like the crude old version but the brighter colours should translate better against a BG. Here's Barn. New or old?

You may recognize these weirdos from a few posts down.
They're part of a new personal project I have in the works.

I recently made a few screen capture tutorials for my animation students. A good starters guide to animating in Flash. Hopefully I can get around to creating a lesson for building and posing.

Here's a few screen shots from a documentary by filmmaker Jeff Chiba Stearns. It's a live action doc with a few animated sections. I had the pleasure of designing and animating a sequence for this film. One of the best jobs I've had in animation, Jeff is an uber talented guy and was a lot of fun to work with. His film will release soon I hope. I've seen a rough cut and it's amazing so far. The final screen shot is based on a landscape in Kelowna, my hometown and soon to be new home again. We're moving there tomorrow after 11 years in Vancouver. It'll be nice to slow things down a bit and be closer to family, the ski hills and lake. I'll miss all the good folks I've met in Vancouver but will be back to visit soon. Till next time!

Port Moody Bear

I was pouring a cup of coffee this morning and this little guy was looking through my window. It was a bit of a shock. I say little because Mom was out there too but she left by the time I got my camera out. My dog didn't even notice them creeping around.
